After much deliberation I am happy to report that I applied for, and have been offered an unconditional place on the Leeds University Executive MBA starting in October 2011 which I have duly accepted.

This blog will be a great place for me to report back on my progress towards the MBA so be sure to check back and check the MBA Category for the latest updates as to my MBA progress.

So, why the MBA I may hear you ask as this really is a deviation from my usual technical lines of study that I have been pursuing for the past 20 or so years.

Well, to be honest, I have pretty much done everything I set out to do technically. I have passed the top Microsoft and Cisco exams including the CCIE. I am a CISSP, CHECK Team Leader and PCI SSC Qualified Security Assessor. There really was not that much more for me to do in my technical areas of interest that would help me further and better myself within my chosen career.

I have been studying since leaving college in 1991 and to be honest never stopped. I currently have a learning void in my life which the MBA will fill. My current role as Technical Director of RandomStorm has seen my face the issues common with fast growing organisations. We have gone from 3 to 30 staff in a very fast time and the areas of leadership and management are two areas where I could really do with brushing up my skills. I really feel that the MBA will help round off my personal skills more than any other programme I have undertaken.

Below, the Leeds MBA Programme Director, Dr Steve King talks about the Leeds MBA programme and what you can expect from your experience as an MBA student at Leeds University Business School.

I am sure that the Leeds Executive MBA will challenge me and I look forward to the learning and knowledge I will gain from the programme.

I cannot wait to start in October and I will be using this blog as an MBA journal reporting back along the way.

I am rather envious Andrew, I have wanted to do an MBA for some years. Timing has just never been right and I’d really want to do full time or cut to a four day week to do part time. Excuses out of the way, I look forward to following your progress. Also I am curious what led your choice of Leeds vs Bradford and others.

      Hi Brian,

Timing is never right for something like this but you just have to take the plunge.

I am lucky to have just completed the 10,000 small businesses programme with Goldman Sachs and the 4 month programme was delivered by Leeds University Business school so I got to meet a lot of the MBA tutors. Also, the pure logistics of the Leeds MBA made it the obvious choice for me.
