Two of my main interests are Apple technology and Golf. So, imagine the delight when the pro at my local course showed me the new iPing iPhone Putter cradle.

iPing-Putter-App

You pay your money for a phone cradle that allows you to mount your iPhone 4 or iPod Touch onto the top of your putter shaft to enable you to use the free iPing application that is available from the iTunes Store.

After parting with my £25 I was very eager to try this app so I downloaded the free app and slipped off my iPhone 4 bumper in order to fix the phone to my shiny Titleist Scotty Cameron putter.

Setup was very easy and I like the way that Ping had written the app so that you could see the results whilst looking down the putter.

It is very important to ensure that the phone cradle is lined up with your putter face as any inconsistency in this will skew the results.

Below is the Ping produced introductory video to the iPing application so now is the time to watch this and to see the demo walkthroughs before I show some of my initial results with the application.

I spent some time playing with this and then produced the following screenshot showing my results of the assessment.

My results show quite a stung arc but with an average 0.5 degree impact angle. It is all about the angle at impact and even though my arc is not great the impact is good. My main failing with my putting are off centre hits which is indicative of the bad arc.

My good tempo is also a positive.

This seems to be quite a useful app and I look forward to playing with it to see what results I can get out of it.

I will be sure to return in a few weeks with an updated post showing any progress I may have had.
